Made up.
On purpose.
Rooms, dates, rates and inventory live in a deterministic hotel engine. No real guests. No real bookings. Ask about a harbour view? The engine doesn’t know.
THE LISTENING ROOM · A FICTIONAL HOTEL
A fictional hotel. Actual voice experiments.
Hear what the AI gets right. And wrong.
Both sides of the conversation, in one place.
THE SHORT ANSWER / OKAY, WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?
We made up a little hotel in Hobart. Gave an AI receptionist real tools for checking rooms and prices. Then started calling — and listening for the distance between sounding helpful and being right.
Rooms, dates, rates and inventory live in a deterministic hotel engine. No real guests. No real bookings. Ask about a harbour view? The engine doesn’t know.
Some tapes are authentic AI voice conversations with real tool calls. Others are clearly labelled scripted rehearsals. You hear both sides — including the hesitations and mistakes.
A passenger changes the plan. A prerecorded assistant claims approval. A caller interrupts a price check. Three real Strange Calls are ready to play below; more scene designs are waiting their turn.
A beautiful answer
can still be wrong.
We keep the tape.
Did the AI check the price, or invent one? Did it hear the caller, or the shouting behind them? We preserve what it actually said, what the hotel actually knew, and what we still can’t claim.
Authentic calls and offline rehearsals, each labelled. Fictional guests. Nothing to book.

The main player combines original caller and agent audio in memory. Placement is approximate; it is not a new live call. Downloads below retain the original bytes. Private source archives stay outside this website.
